Vortex conducted on-site accessibility reviews of all TTC staff areas within the stations of all subway stations located on Lines 1 and 4 (42 stations total) as well as additional service buildings, outlining deficient areas per the requirements of the Toronto Accessibility Design Guidelines and helping to create an implementation plan for improving staff accessibility within the stations. The review included both interior and exterior work areas as well as the paths of travel within the stations required to reach all occupied work areas.

Kipling Transit Hub
The newly opened Kipling Bus Terminal, inaugurated on January 4, 2021, now seamlessly connects the GO Rail, MiWay, TTC subway and buses, and commuter parking, enhancing integrated multimodal commuting. The project included the construction of a new inter-regional bus terminal, tunnels, and overhead pedestrian bridges to link to the TTC and GO stations. Vortex Fire served as the Building Code Consultant, ensuring overall OBC compliance in the project design and preparing the Fire Safety Plan for the terminal. -
Dubai Metro
Vortex Access has been providing specialist accessibility and universal design consultancy for Dubai Metro. The project forms part of the city’s continued investment in an integrated, sustainable and inclusive public transport network.
Our involvement supports the consideration of accessibility throughout the passenger journey, including arrival, station access, circulation, vertical movement, passenger facilities, information, wayfinding and emergency egress.
Through technical reviews and multidisciplinary coordination, Vortex Access contributes to the development of safe, intuitive and user-centred transport environments that enable people of different ages, abilities and access requirements to travel with greater independence, dignity and confidence.
